Dear Internet Surfer,
It's not Karen, Karin, Caren, or Carin - have I missed any? This is KARYN OLIVER'S website.
NERFA and The Americana Music Association Conference were both completely fabulous. I met more incredible songwriters than you shake a stick at, and I shake a mean stick.
...would you like to be a reviewer? Do you like "Hurricane"? Well then, go to http://www.cdbaby.com/karynoliver and tell the world why you think they should buy the CD! We'd really appreciate any glowing feedback you'd like to give us ;-)
Contributing musicians include Deanna Bogart (formerly of Cowboy Jazz), Glenn Workman (Crack The Sky, among other projects), Martin Wieringa (Taneytown), David Zee, Ken Gutberlet, Ron Goad, Bill Patrick, Matt Lehr, Mark Ayers, and Claudia SanSoucie.
Ty Ford recorded, mixed, mastered, and co-produced this record with me. I couldn’t have done it without him. Additional tracking was done at The Bunker, and Glenn and David recorded their own keys.
A few words about the CD from John Devecka of WLOY:
“From the opening classic saxophone sounds of Deanna Bogart, Karyn Oliver’s new CD “Hurricane” flashes through your mind with its influences. The high points of 70’s singer-songwriters’ and mellow rockers are all clearly influential, but don’t make the mistake of thinking this CD is derivative of anything but Karyn’s life and songwriting talents. Finely crafted songs highlight Karyn’s vocal styles and tap deeply into Baltimore’s imprint on her life.
Think such classics as Heart around “Dog and Butterfly”, Springsteen’s “Born To Run” era mixed with more modern themes and sounds.”
If folks get half as much joy out of listening to this record as I had making it, then I have succeeded.
Love,
Karyn
p.s.
I am still hosting a weekly radio show here in Baltimore – I spin local music every Thursday morning from 11 to noon EST on Loyola College Radio, WLOY, 1620 AM http://www.wloy.org . If you are a Baltimore artist, or are coming through town, get in touch! I’d love to hear from you. karyn@karynoliver.com
