NYC Gray Day, and new songs emerging

Hello :),

I haven't been as prolific in the past year as I was in the 2 or 3 years before that. I honestly don't know if hat's good or bad, it's just true. I've been thinking about it a lot lately. Am I just writing less because I have less misery to draw on ;), or am I just getting more particular about what I put out?

It's a bit of both, I guess. I don't have the same desperate need to put all of my...stuff...somewhere 24/7, that's certainly true. And healthy. But the songs that I HAVE written more recently are, IMHO, really good. So ultimately I've taken a few baby steps in the right direction, I suppose.

I have been frustrated with the slowness of my creativity, and trying to focus on way to make to more efficient, more reliable (if that's even possible). I made a choice yesterday to "clear the mechanism" - not sure what Kevin Costner has to do with this, but oh well...I watched no TV, and played no games on my phone. I only used my computer as much as was necessary to do business, and I took a very long walk. The result (or maybe not) was that I was awakened this morning by the gift of a pretty good idea, which I have spent the better part of my morning working on. I plan to keep this up as long as it works, or until my resolve fails. Whichever comes first.

This is a great town for long walks. Even when the weather is not great, there is so much to see. I spend a lot of time trying to figure out what I can do for free.

I'm gearing up for my NYC "debut" if you will - my first real show all to myself as a New Yorker. And it's a good one. I'm plaing at The Bitter End - THE Bitter End - on February 16 at 8 pm. Just one set, joined my my good friend and great piano player Paul Silverman, and I can't wait.

I'm also starting to think about another record. Who to record with, to Kickstart or not to Kickstart, that is the question (opinions welcomed). I have lots of tunes (in spite of this diatribe) lots of energy, and lots of ideas, but very little money. Hence the question.

I hope all of you are having a great January, and finding your own ways to clear the mechanism. And I hope to see you very, very soon.

Love,
KO

Missing You, and new KO App coming!

...as soon as I finish figuring out how to build it! It may be "published" by the end of the day. So pretty soon you'll be able to ckick on a single icon on your iPhone (if'n you have one...) and see where I am and what I'm doing.

This also commits me to being a more regular "blogger" - I've been remiss on that front pretty much since blogging has existed, but I promise to do better. And eat my vegetables.

I'm in Conway, AR, right now, and tomorrow I head to TX. The best thing about Conway is the lovely stone house my friend Dan is letting me stay in. It is truly a gift. The second best thing about Conway is the consignment store....OK, so maybe that's not as great as it seems. I've been there twice. I can walk to it. That's dangerous.

I don't get back to NYC until around about October 13, and I now have a show in Philly on the 15th - whew! Happily, I also have a gig in Maryland on October 21st, so I will get to see a few friends that weekend.

2011 has been a wild year, and it's not over yet. Here I come, Tejas! :)

Big Love,KO

New CD update, etc.

OK, so it’s been waaaay too long since I’ve posted any news. And the funny thing is, there’s tons of news! Not all of which I’m going to put here.....;-)

The new CD is done and now available at shows. It will be just a bit longer before you can buy a CD copy online, but digital downloads should be ready to go in the next week or so. They are being processed as we speak to be available on iTunes, etc.

In the meantime, I have posted a copy of the opening track that you can listen to on the music page here. I hope you enjoy it.

I have probably been more new places this year than I have been in the whole of my life before now. That idea just keeps coming back to me, followed very closely with the thought, “what the hell were you waiting for?” It’s been so much fun, but a lot of hard work, too. Finger crossed that it starts to pay off soon, or....well, I’ll think about that tomorrow (said in my best Scarlett O’Hara voice). Either way it’s well worth it, just for the people who are now in my life. I really do have the coolest friends on the planet. And they’re all over the planet!

I’ve had a hard time lately keeping up with all of the people I love. Please be patient with me. I’m dancing as fast as I can :-)

Love,
KO
